Privacy Policy
VIA is a surveying and engineering application developed by Code Workshop. This privacy policy explains how VIA handles information when you use the app.
Information stored by VIA
VIA does not require an account and does not send your surveys, recorded survey points, alignments or application settings to Code Workshop.
Survey data, alignments and application settings are stored locally on your device.
VIA uses your device's location to provide its positioning, navigation and surveying functions. Depending on the feature being used, this may include precise location, altitude and location accuracy information.
Location permission can be changed or withdrawn at any time through the privacy and location settings on your device. Some VIA features will not operate without access to location information.
Background location
When automatic survey capture is enabled, VIA can use location services while the app is in the background or while the device is locked.
VIA requests permission for background location separately. You can revoke this permission at any time through your device settings.
Maps and Mapbox
VIA uses Mapbox to provide its interactive maps.
The Mapbox Maps SDK may collect de-identified location, usage, performance and diagnostic information for app functionality, analytics and improvement of Mapbox services.
According to Mapbox's privacy declarations, this information is not linked to your identity and is not used for advertising tracking.
VIA provides access to Mapbox's attribution and telemetry controls through the Mapbox information control displayed on its maps. This allows you to opt out of Mapbox location telemetry.

Coordinate reference system search and MapTiler
VIA uses the MapTiler Coordinates API when you choose to search online for a coordinate reference system (CRS).
VIA sends the CRS search text you enter to MapTiler together with the API credentials necessary to perform the request. VIA does not send your survey points or device GNSS coordinates to MapTiler as part of a CRS search.
As with ordinary internet communication, MapTiler's infrastructure may process network information such as your IP address.

Clipboard
VIA can access text on the device clipboard to determine whether coordinate information is available to paste and to provide its coordinate copy and paste functions.
Clipboard information accessed by VIA is processed locally and is not sent to Code Workshop, Mapbox or MapTiler.
Your device may ask for permission before allowing VIA to access content copied from another application.
Exporting and sharing data
VIA allows you to export survey and alignment information in formats such as CSV, KML and LandXML.
When you choose to share an exported file, VIA passes the file to the sharing facilities provided by your device. You choose the application, service or destination to which the information is sent.
VIA does not automatically upload exported survey data to Code Workshop or to a cloud service. The privacy practices of the service you choose to share the file with are governed by that service.
Data retention and deletion
Survey data, alignments and VIA settings stored by the app remain on your device until you delete them or remove the application.
Code Workshop does not maintain a server-side copy of this information.
Information processed by third-party services such as Mapbox and MapTiler is subject to their respective retention and deletion policies.
Tracking and advertising
VIA does not contain advertising and does not use your information for advertising or cross-app tracking.
The Mapbox SDK included with VIA declares that the information it collects is not used for tracking and is not linked to the user's identity.
Changes to this policy
This privacy policy may be updated if VIA's features or use of third-party services changes. The date at the top of this policy indicates when it was last updated.
