Find Point

Navigate towards a manual target or an imported reference point.

For VIA 2.0. Some controls are unavailable in earlier versions.

Find Point shows your position relative to a horizontal target. You need location access, a usable working CRS and coordinates in that grid. Select an alignment if entering chainage/offset.

Enter a target manually

  1. Open Find. If a reference collection is loaded, choose Manual.
  2. Use E/N and enter the target Easting and Northing, or select CH/OFF for an alignment target.
  3. For CH/OFF, enter chainage as a plain number and select LEFT or RIGHT for the offset.
  4. Check the target marker and displayed distance before moving. Use the locate/lock control to keep the current and target positions in view.

Choose an imported point

  1. In Settings, open your file under Reference Coordinates.
  2. Return to Find and choose Pick Point → Choose Point.
  3. Select the target from the viewer. You can use its … → Select Point action, or inspect View Point → Use This Point first.
  4. Check the point number, label and grid coordinates in the target card. Use Choose another point to change it.

Use the guidance

The map shows horizontal distance and direction from the current fix. It does not provide a design level or vertical cut/fill. Judge the result against reported GPS accuracy and the accuracy required by the task; a small displayed distance is not proof that a setting-out tolerance has been achieved.

If the target is missing

Check both numeric inputs, the selected alignment and working CRS. A reference target is cleared when its collection is replaced or unloaded. Reopen the reference file after restarting the app. Changing the working CRS changes the geographic interpretation of imported E/N.
